Harvey

Famous
                              Rabbits, Harvey

Ok I have to admit when I first started this series I put a list together of all the rabbits I thought should be on the list. I then did loads of research. This one bunny kept appearing in my research that was unfamiliar to me. That bunny was Harvey.

Harvey was a play first on Broadway and then later made famous in the movie by the same name starring Jimmy Stewart. Stewart plays the character, Elwood P. Dowd, who’s best friend is a human-sized rabbit named Harvey. However, Harvey is invisible to everyone but Elwood.

Harvey was remade in 1972, again starring Jimmy Stewart. Harry Anderson played the role of Elwood in the 1998 remake.

Today it is not uncommon to see the play Harvey performed by local theatre groups, and colleges. Here is one of the comical exchanges that occur during the movie, when someone tries to explain an imaginary rabbit hanging out with a grown man:

Wilson: Who’s Harvey?
Miss Kelly: A white rabbit, six feet tall.
Wilson: Six feet?
Elwood P. Dowd: Six feet three and a half inches. Now let’s stick to the facts.
