Peter Rabbit

I started this series several months ago and realized while going through my site that we had never finished it. OOPS! So the next three days we will finish our series of the World’s Most Famous Rabbits! Today we pick up with number 3 Peter Rabbit.

Peter Rabbit is the title character of the popular children’s book series written by Beatrix Potter. The series has sold over 150 million copies since its inception in 1902. The first book was called The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

In the original book Peter’s mom leaves him at home with his sister, Flopsy and Mopsy. Peter ventures over to the neighbors house, despite clear instruction from his mom that he is not to go over there. Peter eats from the neighbors vegetable garden, where Mr. McGregor finally sees him in the act. In his desperation to leave the garden, Peter leaves his shows and coat behind, which Mr McGregor promptly uses for his scarecrow.

The tail continues with Benjamin, Peter’s cousin, trying to rescue the clothes. Together they only get into more trouble as they are captured by the neighbors cat. Benjamin’s father rescues the duo, and gives them both a good whipping.

Other books in the series include The Tale of Flopsy Bunnies, The Tale of Mr. Tod, The Tale of Mrs. Tiffy-Winkle, and The Tale of Ginger and Pickles. Today there is a theme attraction in Lake District England dedicated to Beatrix Potter and the Peter Rabbit series.
